Italy

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM ITALY?

As one of the  Western Europes youngest countries, with a population of about 60 million people, the country has a lot of diverse terrains – with sights  famous for a lot of things; From Milan the fashion hub, Lugano close to the Swiss alps , Venice for its romantic aura and churches, Rome for its paintings and sculptures, Sicily for its flavorsome food and Italian Alps for skiing.

In this country summary, will feature the top cities that I have visited and enjoyed tremendously.

UNIQUE THINGS TO DO WHEN TRAVELLING ITALY

Skiing or Hiking – For spectacular scenery, incredible mountain food and some of the Alps’ finest skiing and snowboarding, Italy is also the destination for you. although some of the Italian slopes will be intermediary level and some lifts still old – there are some places that are worth the visit – you have the Incredible scenery in the Aosta Valley and Dolomites coupled with to be honest the best food one can get in the alps of this region. the Milky Way ski area to the west of Turin and the province of Sondrio near the Swiss side are also noteworthy to add to the list.

Food and Tours – Here some might argue, however I had the best food when my plane failed to land in Florence and gave me the gift of landing in bologna, here you can never go wrong with taking a food tour and then escaping into the Chania regions near Florence for some food and wine tasting. See a clip of one of this tour. Second on the musts is Sicily – Taormina was extra ordinary with the flavour and food rhythms. A guide on this coming soon.

Sailing trips – when it comes to sailing The Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular sailing destinations in Italy, and it’s easy to see why. With its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and quaint villages, the Amalfi Coast is truly a sight to behold. You can rent a boat in Italy, you can explore this stunning coastline at your own pace! Or even better you can book an Airbnb experience for this.

Best experience  – Cultural events in museums or galleries. (Featuring Etna: This was to date the best experience in Italy for me perosnally. As the highest active volcano in Europe, coming from the town of Taormina on this tour starting in Palermo, Sicily, had a chance to explore with friends on a 30th birthday girls trip. If you dont have time and are in the region then this stop will not disappoint-  Stanze al Genio – House-museum!)

FINEST GEMS FOR ACCOMODATION AND FOOD PORN

1
Cafe Ditta Artigianale During the time in Florence this cute little coffee place served not only an exquisite array of teas beyond coffee, they had a magical atmosphere and luxe garden to start off the days.
2
Cinque Archi in the centre of Taormina, this is the place for fish and seafood. ( which top my favorites ) had to include this as its one for the culinary experiences if you ever land on the hilltops of the south of Italy.
3
Sina de la ville Milan blew my mind in terms of its architecture and designs in the central area, so to be staying in the city centre is a huge plus. This luxe boutique hotel will be the perfect place when in Milan.
4
La Darsena Have a soft spot for boutique unique place - this place didn't disappoint fit for a romantic get away. The deluxe lake view room can be the cherry on top. Tucked away on Lake Como near to the best places to be in the area.

To give you a glimpse of my  favorite and most accessible places, will take you to Florence. Given I am living near Zürich – Florence is an hour and a half away making it an easy trip all year round. Beyond the food , you have the art and culture of the city – it has been surprising to hear locals  speak so proudly of the city and almost borderline declaring its its own country with no competition to Milan or renowned Rome! quis It tops as a romantic get away and a , architecture paradise with many hidden gems.
